reddit chat with an ex-GW sales rep (he posted this and this for verification) which included some interesting titbits of information:

    And then

So guys, what do you think of this? Personally, yes, it IS expensive and slightly greedy, but we do buy it all the same.
And GW are a company out to make money after all.

This somewhat clears up the discussion that surrounded the Finecast release (IIRC). Many GW fans complained at how Finecast prices were expensive, when A) The production of finecast miniatures in actuality is pretty cheap and B) The miniature quality was, sometimes, pretty shitty.

Pricing a unit on its importance in game is a simple strategy to rake in more cash. It's effective and, frankly, it's fair. GW is expensive and really not for kids (IMO). Of course, the price of manufacturing that unit is incorporated into the price, because no company on Earth will make a product for X+5 and sell it for just X.

greedy? greedy is giving yourself a massive bonus at the end of the year when your company and the industry is financially struggling

GW's price policy is simply good buissiness

If the company knows people will buy a product for £20, why sell it for £15?
